I wonder how much this is going to cost me:
I have no idea how it happened, but that's my new macbook pro that I got this year.

I have a similar issue on my PowerBook G4, but it happened when I replaced the bad hard drive. That spot on the case is weaker due to the slot. I monkeyed with it and was able to get my machine to accept media again, though I still do have an ugly break in the case.
